Bergen Engines delivers reliable, efficient, and versatile medium-speed engines for the commercial marine sector. Our solutions power a wide range of vessels, including general cargo ships, heavy load carriers, tankers, and Ro-Ro vessels. Built for durability and long service life, Bergen Engines are trusted for both main propulsion and auxiliary power applications. Our modular designs simplify installation and maintenance, helping operators reduce downtime and optimize performance.
With a focus on fuel flexibility and environmental compliance, our engines are ready for conventional fuels as well as low-emission alternatives, supporting the industry’s transition to cleaner, more sustainable operations. Operating in some of the world’s most demanding marine environments, Bergen Engines combines decades of experience with modern technology to deliver power solutions that are dependable, efficient, and future-proof.
Bergen Engines is supplying four short-sea Multi-Purpose Vessels (MPVs), which will be built at Huanghai Shipyard in China. This contract marks a major milestone in the collaboration between Bergen Engines, Skarv Shipping, and LMG Marin, all based in Bergen, Norway.
Each vessel will be powered by Bergen’s C25:33L6A generator sets, designed for reliable performance, simplified maintenance and cost-effective operation. The Bergen C25:33L includes variable valve timing that guarantees optimal efficiency and transient performance, even during part-load operation, while maintaining low emissions. The generator sets will feature variable speed technology to optimize fuel consumption; valuable for reducing operational costs and lowering emissions.
Additionally, over the next five years Bergen Engines aims to convert these engines from diesel to ammonia operation, pending the owner’s decision. This initiative underscores the dedication to achieving net carbon zero and highlights Bergen’s role as a key player in the road toward future fuels.
Bergen Engines’ Sr. Sales Manager, Asle Lohne, praised the collaboration: “We greatly appreciate the excellent discussions we’ve had with both LMG Marin and Skarv. Their proactive and engaged approach has been instrumental in optimizing and finding the best solutions for this project.”
Contract details include the construction of four MPVs of 7,000 dwt, with an option for two more. The first ship is scheduled for delivery in Q3 2025, followed by the others at four-month intervals. These vessels are designed to support the renewable energy industry and are highly versatile for various short-sea project class transports.

Delivered in 2015, The Samskip Kvitnos is a highly versatile and efficient Ro-Ro vessel. The 120-TEU vessel remains fully operational, and with a deadweight tonnage of 5000 metric tons, Kvitnos accommodates a broad spectrum of cargo, including rolling stock, breakbulk and vehicles.
Powered by Bergen’s B35:40L9PG, the propulsion system supports a service speed of 18.6 knots, delivering reliable performance across demanding routes. As part of Samskip’s broader sustainability ambitions, Kvitnos also represents a platform for future low-emission and alternative-fuel technologies.
