Bergen-Powered Ronia Polaris Advances Fish Welfare in Chile

The Ronia Polaris has become a standout addition to Chile’s aquaculture fleet, delivering a step forward in sustainable lice treatment and efficient live-fish logistics.

Designed for multipurpose operations and equipped with advanced freshwater treatment systems, the vessel supports the industry’s shift toward non-chemical solutions, an evolution driven by both fish-health priorities and stricter environmental expectations.

Fuel Efficiency and Reliable Power

At the core of the vessel’s performance is a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system powered by two Bergen C25:33L6A engines.

The Bergen units provide the stable propulsion power the vessel relies on when operating in treatment mode, holding position at low speeds and running predictable load profiles during intensive lice removal work.

A Vessel Built for Modern Fish Health Standards

The vessel can transport smolt, move live harvest and perform lice treatments in a controlled environment. Its onboard freshwater production system supports gentle delousing, which has become a preferred method for Chilean farmers seeking to reduce stress and improve survival rates.

The arrival of the Ronia Polaris was recognised regionally as a significant upgrade. Maritime Governor Dinson Baack highlighted that its size and equipment represent a “technological leap” for the fleet operating in southern Chile, strengthening service capacity for farming companies and elevating expectations across the sector.
