Bjørg Pauline
The World’s First Wellboat with Pure LNG Propulsion.
Bjørg Pauline marked an important milestone in the development of sustainable aquaculture when it entered service as the world’s first wellboat operating on pure LNG propulsion, supported by a substantial battery package and high-capacity shore-power capability.
Built at Tersan Shipyard and developed for offshore fish farming, the vessel introduced a propulsion concept designed to reduce emissions, lower fuel costs and maintain stable power for fish handling, grading and delousing operations.
Key Facts
LNG-Hybrid Propulsion Driven by Bergen Engines
Bjørg Pauline’s propulsion system combines four Bergen Engines configured for LNG-hybrid operation. This arrangement feeds an LNG-electric propulsion system, supported by a battery package that smooths load variations during maneuvering and high-demand fish-handling periods. The solution gives the vessel strong
operational flexibility while reducing emissions compared with conventional marine fuel systems.
A Proven Platform for Future Operations
Originally delivered to Nordlaks, Bjørg Pauline has since been acquired by Trident Aqua Services, who continue to operate the vessel within their growing live fish carrier fleet. Its early service confirmed the benefits of a purpose-built LNG hybrid design and demonstrated Bergen Engines’ suitability for high-capacity wellboats where steady, reliable power is critical.
The propulsion concept, combined with the vessel’s large treatment and storage capabilities, has made Bjørg Pauline an important reference for operators seeking low-emission solutions in demanding offshore aquaculture environments.
