Bergen Engines Showcases Innovation and Leadership at Nor-Shipping 2025

| Events, At Sea., Recent News

Bergen Engines made a powerful impression at Nor-Shipping 2025, taking centre stage with our commitment to sustainable innovation, maritime excellence, and industry collaboration. Alongside sister company, Marelli Motori, we welcomed a steady flow of visitors to our booth, where interest was high in our genset and propulsion solutions designed to power the future of maritime operations.

But our presence went beyond the exhibition floor — Bergen Engines played a prominent role in two key leadership forums, reinforcing our position at the forefront of industry transformation.

Tackling Underwater Noise Pollution:

Our Role in the EU-Funded LOWNOISER Project

At the Blue Talk stage, Bergen Engines was featured in a panel on the LOWNOISER project — a groundbreaking EU-funded initiative aimed at reducing underwater noise pollution, protecting marine habitats, and setting new standards for sustainable maritime operations.

As a core partner, Bergen Engines is contributing advanced research and engineering expertise to develop next-generation mounting systems for propulsion and auxiliary engines. These systems are designed to reduce vibration and structural noise without compromising performance — a vital step toward quieter, cleaner oceans.

Bergen Engines presents during Nor-Shipping 2025

“Norway is proud to be a leading player in the development of green solutions for the shipping industry. Cooperation with the EU creates strong market opportunities for Norwegian companies and reflects our maritime sector’s world-class capabilities,” said Andreas Bjelland Eriksen, Norwegian Minister of Climate and Environment.

In collaboration with Maritime CleanTech, Lloyd’s Register, Vibrol Oy, and other forward-thinking partners, the LOWNOISER project is deploying innovative technologies such as:

  • Air Lubrication Systems (ALS) to reduce drag and ship noise.
  • Low-noise bevel gears and engine mounts to cut structural vibration.
  • Onboard monitoring and fiber-optic sensing systems for real-time noise tracking.

This four-year project will validate and scale up real-world solutions that can be applied across both new builds and existing fleets.

Bergen Engines’ parallel internal research into alternative fuels and low-carbon technologies further strengthens our commitment to decarbonizing and de-noising maritime operations. Together, these efforts will shape a more sustainable, competitive future for shipping.

Defence Fleet Readiness

Our MD on Strategic Maritime Capabilities

Jon Erik Rov presents during Nor-Shipping 2025

Separately, Jon Erik Røv, Managing Director at Bergen Engines, joined an influential panel at Nor-Shipping’s Blue Talks to discuss “Defence Fleet Requirements and Supplier Opportunities.” With growing global uncertainty, the conversation focused on the need for robust naval readiness and the role of domestic suppliers in strengthening national resilience.

Jon Erik joined an esteemed group of leaders, including representatives from the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency, Kongsberg Group, L&T Shipbuilding, and OMT.

Together, they explored how maritime defence capabilities must evolve — and how Bergen Engines is positioned to support this with reliable, high-performance engine solutions and rapid industrial readiness.

Driving the Industry Forward

From environmental innovation to defence preparedness, Bergen Engines is proud to contribute to the global conversation shaping the future of the maritime industry.

We thank our partners, visitors, and fellow panelists for making Nor-Shipping 2025 a platform for impact, progress, and collaboration. As we continue to lead the charge toward quieter seas, cleaner operations, and stronger fleets, Bergen Engines remains committed to powering the maritime transformation.

ABOUT BERGEN ENGINES
Bergen Engines produces medium-speed liquid and gas fueled engines and generator sets are supplied to a broad range of land-based, commercial marine, and naval applications. The Bergen name is a watchword for quality and reliability in its field.
The tradition of engineering in Bergen, Norway, dates to 1855 when the original company Bergen Mekaniske Verksted (BMV) was founded. In 1946, the company built its first diesel engine and has since commissioned over 7,500 of its iconic liquid and gas fueled engines. Around half of them are still in operation today; such is the quality and reliability of a Bergen engine.
Formerly Rolls-Royce Bergen Engines, on 31st December 2021, the company became part of the privately owned British engineering group, Langley Holdings plc
