Bergen Engines has appointed Scott Fiveland as Director of Service Operations for Bergen Engines Inc., its North American business.
Scott will lead the development of Bergen Engines’ North American service operation as the company prepares for a substantial increase in its installed base.
The boom in AI data-centre construction in the United States is driving unprecedented demand for behind-the-meter power. Since entering the sector last year, Bergen Engines has signed around 3 GW of BTM business, all for projects in the United States.
As these projects enter operation, Scott will be responsible for developing the people, systems, remote-monitoring capability and field-service infrastructure required to support a growing fleet of large and technically complex power plants.
Scott joins Bergen Engines from Unison Energy, where he served as Vice President of Operations. He established a nationwide service and operations system supporting more than 20 microgrid power plants across the United States, combining remote monitoring, advanced analytics and lean operating methods.
Before joining Unison Energy in 2020, Scott spent more than 20 years with Caterpillar. He served as Worldwide Chief Engineer for natural-gas engines and led product-development activities for Caterpillar’s MWM business in Mannheim, Germany, as well as technical leader with Caterpillar Motoren (MAK) engines.
He also held technical leadership roles within Caterpillar Motoren and led a number of significant prototype and commissioning programmes, including the more than 60 MW propulsion plant for AIDAnova, the world’s first cruise ship designed to operate primarily on liquefied natural gas.
Scott is named on more than 67 patents and has authored over 75 internationally published technical papers. He is a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy and holds a master’s degree and PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan.

He brings the experience, technical depth and steady leadership required to build this capability properly.”
Scott will be based at Bergen Engines’ North American headquarters in Austin, Texas, at the heart of the current growth in US data-centre development. The site includes a 135,000 sq ft spare-parts warehouse and a cylinder and turbocharger overhaul facility, both currently being commissioned to support the company’s growing installed base.
