Minister of Foreign Affairs Returns to Bergen Engines

To Learn More About the Generator Sets Powering Ukraine

| Recent News

Norway’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Espen Barth Eide, returned to Bergen Engines’ factory at Hordvikneset on Friday to learn more about the company’s ongoing support for Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

“Ukrainians have told me these engines are extremely important to them,” said Minister Barth Eide.

Delivering Power in a Time of Crisis

Since the outbreak of war in 2022, Ukraine’s power infrastructure has been severely damaged by Russian missile strikes, with many complete power stations destroyed. The loss of these have left millions without reliable electricity and heating, particularly during harsh winter months.

In recent months, Bergen Engines has delivered 16 generator sets to Ukraine, with each unit producing around 9.5 megawatts. This is enough to power thousands of homes while supplying power to district heating networks across the country.

The Demand for Power

“The demand is enormous—several thousand megawatts,” said John Kristian Johnsen, Head of Sales – Land at Bergen Engines. “We have the capacity to deliver, but there is high demand globally.”

Rebuilding for the Future

For Minister Barth Eide, the work being done in Bergen is about more than just emergency aid.

“This is support that helps Ukraine now, and lays the foundation for a future-oriented energy system. These engines can contribute to a more robust and decentralized power system. Ukraine should not only win the war, it should also be rebuilt as a modern and robust country.”

Norwegian Engineering with Global Impact

The Minister’s return visit shows Bergen Engines’ role as a key contributor to both Norway’s industrial capability and Europe’s energy resilience. From the factory floor in Bergen to communities across Ukraine, our generator sets are helping to keep homes warm, hospitals running, and businesses open.
