Highlights from SMM 2024

Showcasing Bergen Engines’ Commitment to Low-Emission Marine Solutions

| At Sea., Events

From September 3-6, Bergen Engines participated in SMM 2024, the world’s second-largest maritime event, held in Hamburg, Germany. With approximately 40,000 participants from over 120 countries, SMM provided a key platform for business and collaboration within the maritime industry.

Situated in the Future Fuels Hall, we shared a booth with Marelli Motori, a sister company in Langley Holdings’ Power Solutions Division. Together, we showcased our medium-speed propulsion engines and generator sets, trusted for over 80 years to provide reliable power onboard a wide variety of vessels.

At Bergen Engines, we are committed to advancing low-emission technologies for the maritime sector. We are actively engaged in future fuel research, exploring sustainable alternatives like biodiesel (HVO and FAME), ammonia, and methanol. Our goal is to support the maritime industry in meeting stricter emissions regulations while ensuring reliable, efficient power solutions for the vessels of tomorrow.

Kjell Harloff, Head of Sales – Marine, noted how busy the show was, with many relevant contacts stopping by our booth. The event proved to be an excellent opportunity to connect with shipbuilders, naval architects, ship owners, and global partners, and foster valuable conversations around the future of the maritime industry.

Thank you to everyone who visited our booth. We look forward to continuing the conversation on cleaner, more sustainable solutions for the maritime sector.

ABOUT BERGEN ENGINES
Bergen Engines produces medium-speed liquid and gas fueled engines and generator sets are supplied to a broad range of land-based, commercial marine, and naval applications. The Bergen name is a watchword for quality and reliability in its field. The tradition of engineering in Bergen, Norway, dates to 1855 when the original company Bergen Mekaniske Verksted (BMV) was founded. In 1946, the company built its first diesel engine and has since commissioned over 7,500 of its iconic liquid and gas fueled engines. Around half of them are still in operation today; such is the quality and reliability of a Bergen engine. Formerly Rolls-Royce Bergen Engines, on 31st December 2021, the company became part of the Power Solutions Division of the British engineering and industrial group, Langley Holdings plc, together with Marelli Motori, Italy, Piller Power Systems, Germany and GKN Hydrogen, Italy.
