Bergen, Norway – Bergen Engines, a leading producer of medium speed engines for power generation, is pleased to announce a new order from Loial Impex SRL of four B35:40V16AG2 generating sets for a new 30MW cogeneration plant in the city of Oradea, located in Western Romania.

Loial Impex SRL announced the project in January 2024 as part of the City of Oradea’s largest investment of the year. The full scope of the project includes providing new solutions for heat and electricity production, while lowering pollution and improving energy efficiency, to cover the thermal energy needs of the district heating system in Oradea.

Supporting Households in Oradea

This new power plant will be instrumental in enhancing the energy infrastructure of Oradea. With an average electricity consumption annually in Romania of 3.4MWh per household1, at full capacity the new plant has the potential to power more than 70,000 households, meeting the current and future energy demands of the local population.

Key Benefits of Cogeneration

Cogeneration, or combined heat and power (CHP), is an efficient approach to energy production. By simultaneously generating electricity and useful heat, cogeneration systems with Bergen Engines can achieve efficiency levels of over 80%, significantly higher than conventional power plants. This increased efficiency leads to several benefits for our customers:

  • Reduced Emissions
Cogeneration reduces greenhouse gas emissions by utilizing waste heat that would otherwise be lost in traditional power generation processes.
  • Cost Savings
Increased efficiency leads to lower fuel consumption and operating costs, offering significant savings over the long term.
  • Energy Security
Local generation of heat and power reduces dependency on external energy supplies and enhances energy security for the region.

The Power of Medium Speed

Bergen Engines’ B35:40V16AG2 generating sets are designed with medium speed engines, which offer additional advantages in cogeneration applications. Our engines are known for their robust construction and longer lifespan, ensuring consistent performance and reduced maintenance costs.

These engines are optimized for high efficiency and lower fuel consumption, making them ideal for continuous operation in demanding applications. They can quickly adapt to varying load demands, providing a flexible and scalable solution for growing energy needs.

1Data sourced from CEZ Romania, average household consumption can reach 283kWh/month.

ABOUT BERGEN ENGINES
Bergen Engines produces medium-speed liquid and gas fueled engines and generator sets are supplied to a broad range of land-based, commercial marine, and naval applications. The Bergen name is a watchword for quality and reliability in its field.
The tradition of engineering in Bergen, Norway, dates to 1855 when the original company Bergen Mekaniske Verksted (BMV) was founded. In 1946, the company built its first diesel engine and has since commissioned over 7,500 of its iconic liquid and gas fueled engines. Around half of them are still in operation today; such is the quality and reliability of a Bergen engine.
Formerly Rolls-Royce Bergen Engines, on 31st December 2021, the company became part of the privately owned British engineering group, Langley Holdings plc
